DETROIT 0, KANSAS CITY 0, 1ST QUARTER

December 23, 2007

Pregame: You think things couldn’t be worse for the Lions, who’ve lost six in a row? Well, let me introduce you to the 4-10 Kansas City Chiefs, losers of their last seven games.

That makes trying to predict this game very difficult, since neither team as anything to play for.

So here’s what I’ll use as the determining factor: The last time the Lions were in the playoffs, was the last millennium. That last time for the Chiefs,… was last year.

I’ll take the Chiefs, 17-10.

First quarter

A couple of my favorite people in sports are involved in today’s game. First of, Chiefs coach Herm Edwards. Stand-up guy, but who knows what’s coming out of his mouth. I just hope our writers keep the tape recorders rolling today.

Speaking of speaking, you gotta love Gus Johnson (Detroit native), who’s broadcasting the game with Steve Tasker on CBS. Johnson is the king of excitability. I can’t wait for a meaningless play to happen, yet it sounds like the Super Bowl is won.

13:00: After a couple of runs, Kitna’s pass to Shaun McDonald goes for 9.909 yards. Lions go three and out and punt it to an old friend. Eddie Drummond takes the punt at the Chiefs 10 yard line. I would say he’s destined to have a big day, but he hasn’t had one of those since 2004.

11:28: One their first third down, Chiefs QB Brodie Croyle finds sure-fire Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez for the first down. A 12-yard pass to the 30. Tight ends don’t normally have big days the Lions though, right?

9:51: Another first down catch for Gonzalez. I think this is the exception and not the rule.

McGEECHAN: IT'S OUR OWN FAULT

Wasps boss Ian McGeechan took stock of another missed opportunity in the Guinness Premiership, and admitted: “We’ve probably got ourselves to blame.”

Wasps, struggling in the bottom third of the table, looked to have done enough for a welcome victory when they led Memorial Stadium hosts Bristol 23-20 in injury-time today.

But Bristol replacement Ed Barnes kicked an equalising penalty to make it eight games unbeaten at home for the west-country side.

McGeechan said: “We’ve probably got ourselves to blame. We made a lot of unforced errors.

“When you are away from home, you have to try to keep control of your own destiny more than we did today.”

Wasps did not help themselves at times, playing 20 minutes of the game with 14 men as Locks Simon Shaw and Richard Birkett were sin-binned in each half.

But they looked to have scraped victory when referee Andrew Small awarded them a penalty try for repeated infringement by the Bristol front row with just six minutes remaining.

However, the hosts dug deep to secure a share of the spoils through Barnes’ penalty after claiming earlier tries by wing Tom Arscott (two) and his brother Luke.

McGeechan added: “This is not an easy place to come, and when we got the penalty try, I thought we had put ourselves in a position to win the game.”

McGeechan played down a late injury to England hopeful James Haskell, who joined the action late from the replacement’s bench.

“He has aggravated his ankle a bit. We hope it is not too serious,” McGeechan said.

Wasps raced into an early 10-0 lead thanks to a try from skipper Eoin Reddan, while fly-half Danny Cipriani finished with 13 points, but Bristol displayed trademark resilience to ensure the game never got away from them.

Head coach Richard Hill said: “Our defence was outstanding, and we allowed Cipriani, Riki Flutey and Waters no space at all.

“Most of our work in the build-up to this game had gone …

Fire victim sues apartment complex's management

A former tenant at Kirklevington Hills Apartments has sued the Lexington apartment complex, accusing management of failing to keep it safe from fires.

There have been three fires at the apartments, located on Kirklevington Drive, since October 2006. Anthony Johnson, who now lives in Cynthiana, says in a Fayette Circuit Court lawsuit that he was severely injured in a blaze on Dec. 22, 2006.

The lawsuit alleges that the apartments did not provide reasonable safeguards to protect residents from fires. Johnson’s lawsuit says the apartments violated municipal regulations by not providing proper fire exits and by having faulty wiring and inoperable smoke detectors.

The lawsuit names Kirklevington Lexington Property LLC and River Oaks Management LLC defendants. It seeks compensation for pain, suffering, mental anguish, lost income and medical expenses. It also seeks punitive damages.

Michael Spurlock Makes Buccaneers History

December 16th, 2007 by tiffany

Source: AOL SPORTS ()

Michael Spurlock just became the answer to an NFL trivia question.

For the first time in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 32-year history, Spurlock, a former quarterback at the University of Mississippi, returned a kickoff for a touchdown. He took the ball at his own 10 yard line, ran it up the middle at first, then bounced into the clear for his historic run. The Bucs returned 1,865 kickoffs before finally scoring on one.

Of course, Spurlock did this against the Atlanta Falcons, who may be playing with more fire today after that whole Bobby Petrino mess, but it’s not stopping them from sucking. Chris Redman has completed only 2 of 9 passes, and his lone touchdown pass was to Ronde Barber, who is definitely not a Falcon. The Bucs also have a touchdown from Earnest Graham and a 33-yard field goal from Matt Bryant for a 24-3 lead late in the second quarter.

Chevy Silverado commercial spoils CBS show for fans

December 14th, 2007 by tiffany

Earlier this year, the CBS show Cane was the seventh most searched new fall show. Since then, we haven’t heard anything about it, neither good or bad. That changed this week when someone at CBS had a Homer moment (”D’oh!̶ ;) and ran a story-spoiling commercial before the plot had run its course on the show.

On the show, cut to: Jaime taking off in a Chevy Silverado into a cane field, being chased by his father, Alex (Jimmy Smits in the lead role), and getting caught in a fire set by a rival. Fade to black. Cut to commercial: a Chevy Silverado bursting through a wall of flames, and a narrator asking “Did you think that stunt with the Silverado was hot?” Cut to viewers asking: “Uh, what the…?”

But come on — was this really a plot spoiler? Because you really thought it possible that the main character and his son were going to die in a fire in the show’s first season? Really? in fact, did get one angry call. And with that, probably lost the one ardent fan of Cane.
